This tool is designed to help MFIs develop a more robust framework to incorporate good client protection practices into their compulsory group training. This tool is most suited for MFIs who employ village banking methodology and Grameen Style “group or groups” methodology.

The majority of microfinance institutions (MFI) in India and Asia adopt the Grameen-style Joint Liability Group (JLG) methodology. Prior to obtaining credit, the JLG typically undergoes a Compulsory Group Training (CGT). The CGT is the first formal interaction (five hours spread over three to five days) between prospective clients and an MFI.
